INDIANAPOLIS | Central Indiana starts the final day of May with a mainly dry, comfortable pattern rather than the stormy upper-80s forecast that appeared in an earlier draft. The corrected outlook calls for a warm but manageable Sunday, with Indianapolis forecast around 78 degrees and only a low rain chance.

WTHR’s 10-day forecast listed Indianapolis at 78 degrees for Sunday with a 10 percent rain chance and an east wind around 7 mph. The broader pattern points to upper-70s and low-80s temperatures over the next several days, keeping outdoor plans, youth sports, graduation events and evening walks in a favorable window.

That does not mean every weather concern has disappeared. Southern and southwestern parts of Indiana still need to pay attention to river flooding, especially along parts of the East Fork White River and White River where National Weather Service flood statements remained active. That river flooding is covered separately in today’s Severe Weather Alert.

For Indianapolis and most of Central Indiana, the practical message is simple: plan for a pleasant late-spring day, keep water nearby during longer outdoor activity, and check updated forecasts before evening travel. A dry stretch after recent wet weather can make yard work and event setup easier, but riverbanks and low-lying areas may still be soft or unsafe.

The coming week looks like a gentle transition toward early June. Temperatures in the low 80s can feel comfortable in the shade but still add up for people working outside, athletes practicing in the afternoon, and older adults without good airflow indoors.

The bottom line: Sunday is not a severe-weather day for Indianapolis based on the current forecast. It is a mainly dry, warm day with enough lingering regional river flooding to justify awareness south and southwest of the metro area.

What this means

For readers, the corrected forecast means outdoor plans in Central Indiana look generally favorable, with temperatures near the upper 70s and low rain chances.

The main caution is river flooding in parts of southern and southwestern Indiana, which should be treated separately from the Indianapolis daily forecast.
