Severe Weather Alert for 27 May 2026: Flood Warnings Continue for Central Indiana Rivers
Flood warnings remain in effect on parts of the East Fork White River and lower White River after heavy rain.
INDIANAPOLIS | Flood warnings remain in effect for portions of central and southern Indiana as river flooding continues along parts of the East Fork White River and lower White River.
The National Weather Service Indianapolis said minor lowland flooding continues along lower portions of the East Fork White River and lower White River. The agency listed warning points including Williams, Bedford, Rivervale, Hazleton and Petersburg, with additional rainfall through Wednesday capable of causing additional rises, especially along the East Fork White River.
The weather service also issued a Wednesday morning flood warning for central Jackson County after radar indicated heavy rain from thunderstorms, with up to 2.5 inches reported in the warned area at the time of issuance. Locations named in that warning included Seymour, Brownstown, Cortland and Vallonia.
Drivers should not go around barricades or attempt to drive through flooded roads. Floodwater can hide washed-out pavement, stalled vehicles and dangerous currents, and most flood deaths occur in vehicles.

What this means
This is a flood-safety alert, not a tornado or wind alert. The main risk is water on roads, lowland flooding and river flooding in warned areas.
Residents near rivers and low-lying roads should monitor official updates and avoid flooded routes until water recedes.
