Daily Weather Brief for 27 May 2026: Humid Storms Bring Ponding Risk Before a Drier Stretch
Clouds, humidity and thunderstorms remain the main weather story for Indianapolis and central Indiana.
INDIANAPOLIS | Central Indiana begins Wednesday under clouds and humidity, with scattered thunderstorms capable of producing locally heavy rainfall during the day and tonight.
The National Weather Service Indianapolis Hazardous Weather Outlook says thunderstorms with locally heavy rainfall are possible across central Indiana. Severe storms are not expected at this time, but localized flash flooding is possible, especially where heavier storms repeatedly move over the same area.
Indianapolis forecast guidance calls for a cloudy, humid day with a thunderstorm or two and the possibility of ponding on roadways. The forecast improves Thursday, with less humid air and sunshine filtered by high clouds, followed by a partly sunny and more comfortable Friday.
For commuters, schools and outdoor plans, the practical rule is simple: keep rain gear nearby, allow extra time on wet roads and avoid low-water crossings if storms produce quick runoff.

What this means
The day does not look like a widespread severe-weather setup for Indianapolis, but heavy rain can still cause practical trouble on roads and in low spots.
The best improvement window appears Thursday into Friday, when humidity drops and rain chances ease.
