PARIS | The French Open opened under heat Sunday as Alexander Zverev advanced in straight sets and Novak Djokovic began another chase for tennis history.

Reuters reported that Zverev defeated Benjamin Bonzi 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 on Court Philippe-Chatrier. Zverev, a 2024 finalist and three-time semifinalist, will face Tomas Machac in the second round.

Reuters also reported that Djokovic entered the tournament seeking a record 25th Grand Slam title, while the draw includes a strong field led by Jannik Sinner and other contenders on clay.

The tournament’s first-day heat, withdrawals and opening-round results give Roland Garros an immediate rhythm as players move from warm-up questions to match fitness and draw management.
