INDIANAPOLIS | Indianapolis Motor Speedway moves into the heart of race weekend Friday as Miller Lite Carb Day brings fans back to the track for final Indy 500 preparations, pit-lane competition and a full day of race-weekend atmosphere.

The official IMS schedule lists Carb Day on Friday, 22 May, with the day running from morning through early evening. The day’s centerpiece remains the final practice session for the 110th Indianapolis 500, giving teams one more chance to confirm race trim, pit timing, fuel rhythm and balance before Sunday.

Carb Day also includes the Oscar Mayer Wienie 500 and the annual Pit Stop Competition, a fan-friendly event that turns pit crews into the focus. For teams, the pit contest is more than entertainment. A clean stop can change an Indy 500, and Friday gives crews a high-pressure rehearsal in front of a crowd.

For the city, Carb Day is the informal beginning of the largest sports weekend of the year. Hotels, restaurants, Speedway businesses, rideshare drivers, law enforcement, parking crews and event staff all begin operating at race-weekend scale.

Weather remains the major planning variable. Fans should check IMS updates, give themselves extra arrival time and prepare for possible rain or damp conditions around the facility.

What this means

For Indianapolis, Carb Day is when race weekend becomes real. Fans should treat Friday as a full event day, plan for traffic around Speedway, and keep rain gear close as the final build-up to Sunday begins.
