INDIANAPOLIS | A 71st Street trail closure on the northeast side will affect walkers, cyclists and drivers as bridge-related work continues near I-465.

FOX59 reported that the 71st Street trail is expected to close for about two months. Prior traffic updates around the corridor have directed drivers to use Binford Boulevard, East 75th Street and Shadeland Avenue as detour routes during related bridge work.

The closure matters because trails are not only recreation corridors. They are part of daily neighborhood movement for people walking, biking, exercising, commuting or connecting to nearby parks and homes.

Residents should check posted signs, allow extra travel time and avoid entering closed trail or construction areas until the work zone is reopened.

What this means

For northeast-side residents, the main impact is inconvenience and detour planning. Trail users should expect a longer adjustment period than a one-day road closure.

The practical move is to check the route before leaving and follow posted construction guidance near the bridge area.
