SAN FRANCISCO | Nissan’s supply-chain reset reached a new marker after Reuters reported that subsidiary JATCO scrapped a plan to make electric-vehicle powertrains in Sunderland, Britain.

Reuters reported, citing Nikkei, that JATCO canceled a 48.7 million-pound project that had been expected to produce up to 340,000 EV powertrain units annually. The report tied the cancellation to weaker Nissan EV demand in Europe.

The decision follows a broader Nissan restructuring plan that includes cutting the number of global auto production plants and reviewing powertrain facilities.

The business signal is wider than one factory plan. Softer EV demand can move through suppliers, plant commitments, workforce expectations, local economic planning and government industrial strategy.
