Indianapolis Indians: A Community Legacy in Baseball

INDIANAPOLIS | The Indianapolis Indians remain one of the city’s most durable sports institutions, linking Victory Field, downtown game-day traffic and generations of local baseball fans to a professional baseball history that dates to 1902.

The club’s official history describes the Indians as part of Circle City baseball since East Washington Park in 1902, with today’s team playing at Victory Field and operating as the Triple-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates.

That history gives the team a role that extends beyond the box score. Indians games bring families, youth teams, downtown workers, visitors and longtime fans into the same civic space, especially during spring and summer evenings when Victory Field becomes part of the city’s broader entertainment calendar.
